Events
The calendar of presidency events has been implemented successfully. Under
the Slovenian Presidency about 8000 events have been organised, including:
- 2 meetings of the European Council (13 - 14 March and 19 - 20 June);
- 33 formal meetings of Council of Ministers and 15 informal ministerial meetings and conferences;
- 243 events EU - Third countries (Summit EU - Japan on 23 April, Summit EU - Latin America & Caribbean on 16 - 17 May, the EU - USA Summit on 10 June, the EU - Russian Federation Summit on 26 - 27 June and 57 EU - Third Countries meetings on the ministerial level
- 145 events at underministerial level in Slovenia
- 124 accompanying events in Slovenia
- 431 multilateral events associated with the presidency at the headquarters of multilateral organisations
- 2095 meetings of Council preparatory bodies in Brussels
- 160 events related to the European Parliament;
- 260 cultural promotion events financed from the Presidency budget;
- 4752 other events associated with the presidency, such as preparatory meetings, EU coordinations and meetings of Heads of Delegations, which were organised on a regular basis by the diplomatic and consular representations of the Republic of Slovenia abroad.
As regards venues, 283 events were organised in Slovenia, 3285 in Brussels and 4242 elsewhere in the world.
Other important events were the following:
- Meeting between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament (December 2007);
- Meeting of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and members of the European Commission in Slovenia (8 January);
- Opening Event of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (8 January);
- Tripartite Social Summit before the spring European Council meeting (13 March);
- Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra concert on the eve of the spring European Council meeting in Brussels (12 March);
- Donation of a replica of the Ple?nik?s long-case clock to the Council (13 March) and installation of the monolith bearing the inscription of the line of the Slovenian anthem??ive naj vsi narodi?(May all peoples thrive and prosper) (taken from the song 'Zdravljica? (The Toast) by the greatest Slovenian poet, France Pre?eren) in the 23 official languages of the EU Member States, in front of the Justus Lipsius building to mark the first Slovenian EU Council Presidency (23 June);
- Meetings of national parliaments committees presidents in Slovenia (organised by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia);
- Media event Europa Forum (9 May).
