Slovenia and EU Finances
Between 2004 and 2006 Slovenia was a net recipient of funds from
the Community budget, and it is estimated that it received
approximately EUR 392.7 million more than it contributed. The total
funds drawn between 2004 and 2006 amounted to EUR 1.23 billion. Almost
a third was allocated to agriculture, a fifth to structural politics
(from Structural Funds aimed at reducing the development gap between
different EU regions, and the Cohesion Fund for projects relating to
the environment and transport infrastructure), a good sixth to
internal politics (setting up the Schengen border, R&D, education,
culture, employment, environment, health, etc.), a fourth to flat rate
rebates (for strengthening cash flow, and for budgetary compensation,
